Skelton Workshops East Sussex.
The Skelton Workshops are situated in the home of the late John Skelton sculptor & letter cutter.
John Skelton, letter carver and sculptor, spent 50 years working in Sussex close to Ditchling Beacon. He was the nephew of Eric Gill and was apprenticed to his uncle for a short time. This is a summary of the on going documentation of his studio and works. Many of John’s tools, books, drawings and maquettes are still to be found in their existing positions. Making this a unique time capsule of his prolific output. The studio is now used to run classes in Sculpture and Letter Cutting, managed by Helen Mary Skelton. Featured in this series is Graham Alborough professional letter cutter, sculptor and stone carver.
